Anyone interested in working with AI can start here. You do not need a coding background or prior AI experience. Whether you are a student, working professional, freelancer, homemaker, career returner or someone exploring a new opportunity, DeepAnnotator helps you develop practical AI data and evaluation skills.
What You Will Achieve
- Label images, text and audio accurately by following a clear guide.
- Draw bounding boxes, sort text into categories and transcribe audio recordings.
- Evaluate AI-generated answers and explain which ones are more accurate and useful.
- Check data quality, spot mistakes and write a short quality report.
Projects You Will Build
Build practical projects and portfolio-ready work that demonstrates what you can create with AI.
Image Bounding Boxes
Draw boxes around objects in images to help AI systems recognize them.
Audio Transcription
Listen to audio recordings and convert spoken words into text.
Text Categorisation
Sort messages, reviews or questions into clear categories, such as complaint, question or feedback.
AI Response Evaluation
Compare AI-generated answers and identify which ones are more accurate and useful.
Data Quality Check
Review a batch of labelled data, find mistakes and write a short quality report.
An AI quality-review pack
Label a practice dataset and rate a set of AI-generated answers. Include the instructions you followed, your decisions, a quality check and a short note on any unclear cases.
Curriculum & Key Capabilities
Learn to label images, text and audio, compare AI-generated answers and check data quality — the careful human work that helps AI systems become more accurate and useful.
Your Starter Service
Each module helps you package a starter service you can pitch for a freelance project, client assignment or internship. Finding and winning work is up to you and is not guaranteed.
Your starter service“I will label a pilot batch of up to 100 simple images or text records using your guidelines, check my own work and list any issues I find.”
Your starter service“I will evaluate up to 50 AI-generated responses for instruction-following, relevance, accuracy, clarity and safety using your rubric.”
Services you can offer
- Image labelling: sorting and tagging images
- Image bounding boxes: drawing boxes around objects
- Text categorisation, including what a message asks for and its tone
- Tagging names, places and products in text
- Audio transcription: turning speech into text
- Rating how relevant search results are
- Rating and comparing AI-generated answers
- Product categorisation

Your portfolio from this module
Every module ends in work you can show. This is the portfolio you need for the module certificate, so you know exactly what to aim for.
What your portfolio should include
Several of these pieces are built during the module’s projects and capstone.
- One exercise in reading and applying a labelling guide
- One image-classification sample
- One bounding-box annotation sample
- One text-classification project
- One basic transcription sample
- Thirty evaluated AI responses
- Twenty side-by-side comparisons of AI answers
- One data quality-check report
- One log of unclear cases and questions
- One work-progress tracker
- One complete AI Quality Launch capstone
- One portfolio case study and a packaged starter offer
How your work is assessed
Must-have competencies
You complete the module only after you can do each of these independently:
- Read guidelines carefully and apply labels consistently
- Complete image, text and basic audio annotation tasks
- Evaluate AI responses against a rubric
- Spot AI mistakes: wrong facts, off-topic answers, ignored instructions and made-up information
- Compare two AI answers fairly and explain the choice in a sentence or two
- Check your own work and correct it after feedback
- Record unclear cases and ask clear questions about the guidelines
- Protect confidential information and meet deadlines
Capstone: Startup AI Quality Launch Project
Label data, rate AI answers, check quality and report whether a startup’s AI support tool is ready to launch, using practice data.
- Labels for fifty customer messages: what each asks for and its tone
- Ratings for thirty AI support answers
- Ten side-by-side comparisons of AI answers
- Quality check with an accuracy score
- Log of unclear cases and issues, with questions for the client
- Launch-readiness report showing where people should still review the AI’s answers
Certified on what you can do
Certificates are awarded on demonstrated capability, not attendance.
The DeepAnnotator role-completion certificate is issued by The AI SCHOOL. You receive it once you demonstrate the module’s must-have competencies and meet its minimum portfolio standard.

Questions about this module
What is DeepAnnotator about?
It focuses on data annotation (labelling images, text and audio), AI evaluation (rating AI-generated answers) and quality checks. You practise following instructions and making decisions that another reviewer can understand.
Who can join DeepAnnotator?
Anyone interested in working with AI. You do not need a coding background or prior AI experience. The module rewards careful reading, structured work and attention to detail.
Is coding required?
The sample project uses annotation and review workflows rather than software development. A specific tool or dataset may have additional requirements, which should be confirmed before joining.
What will I build?
The project brief combines labelled data with an AI output evaluation and quality report. It shows both the results and the reasoning behind difficult decisions.
How is quality judged?
The assessment looks at consistency, reasoning, uncertainty handling and traceability. Speed alone is not a sufficient measure of good annotation work.
Will I work with real customer data?
Not by default. Practice projects use public, synthetic or authorised data, and any customer data requires permission and handling instructions.
Does this lead to paid annotation work?
The work can help demonstrate relevant skills when applying for opportunities. Available assignments, eligibility tests, selection and payment terms vary, and paid work is not guaranteed.
